For SS uniforms, there are oodles of exquisite pictures (way too many to even contemplate scanning some, I wouldn't know where to begin) in...

    German War Cemetary [February 17th, 2007 @ 4:20pm]

galiena_pvszr put this discussion at ww2_photographs under my attention: http://community.livejournal.com/ww2_photographs/130184.html . So I contributed my humble opinion to let some of those ignorant assholes see they're wrong. Not that it did help....but I tried. http://community.livejournal.com/ww2_photographs/130184.html?thread=1147272#t1147272

Anyway I've seen a couple of war cemetaries from all involved parties in WWII and I wanted to share these pics with you I made in February when I was with my family in the Ardennen. We stayed in the little town called Beffe. It's near La Roche sur Ardennen and Bastogne. Beffe was exactly on the German "border" line. The Battle of the Bulge/Ardennes Offensive was fought right in this area and lived his climax in Bastogne.

To get back to the cemetaries, here are some photo's of the German War Cemetary in Recogne - Bastogne. I posted some photo's of it before in my journal when I was there in March 2006.

I'm always a bit emotional when seeing this. 6.807 Germans are buried here. The site is quietly situated and has a lovely little chapel. The cemetary is maintained by a German who lives next to it. It also has a sort of theme. On the site are oak trees (oakleaves on the insignia, medals, shoulders boards etc of the uniforms), the little chapel is build from red Eifel sandstone and the rougly cut gravestones look a bit like the Germans Cross. It's a sober place in contrast with the American War Cemetaries. Sometimes 6 bodies share a grave and their ranks are abbreviated, and only Wehrmacht ranks are mentioned. No logo's or anythings else.

The last two pictures are from the gravestone of Gefreiter Kurt Weise, who died 31-12-1944, age 35....
Next to grave is a bronze plaquette which says:
"Kurt Weise, zum 95. Geburtstag von seinen Söhnen Werner Geb. 4.11.41 Heinz 21.9.43"
I got tears in my eyes when reading it and couldn't speak.....
For some strange reason it evokes emotions/feelings/memories.

Next post will contain photo's of the English War Cemetary in Hotton.

Ladies, meet Johnathan Cake. Gregory peck...eat your heart out

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

'Out of the Ashes' was far more satisfying than 'Boys From Brazil'. Even though 'Out of the Ashes' was a lower budget made-for-tv Showtime production, it was quite good. The interiors and the sets were rather nice, even if there are a few gross inaccuracies. The movie is about a gynecologist, Miss Gisella Perl who is sent to Auschwitz along with her entire family. While not peering between women's legs and doing abortions with her bare hands (o_O), she is forced the aide our dear Angel o' Death in his daily chores. The actress who played Dr. Perl was aggrivating as hell. I ended up fast-forwarding through all her boring monologues to get to the good stuff - Mr. Cake. Cake did his research, and was a very believable Mengele. The part where he was explaining to Perl about his twin research was...well, adorable. The way he smiled and talked like a giddy schoolboy upon recieving an unexpected treat. At first, Cake seems a little stiff (during the selektion/whistling scene), but then warmed up as the movie progressed. Strangely, he has a bizzare British/German accent that was odd at first to get used to, but it was a voice I had always imagined Mengele to have. Quite creepy really.
My dears, go rent this movie. You will not be dissapointed.
